Southwest Airlines has developed the ability to attract top talent while retaining those already working within their company. This human resource function is one that companies are striving to continuously improve. In which many companies try to duplicate Southwest’s approach, but are not as successful as the customer service oriented airlines themselves. The mission of Southwest Airlines is dedication to the highest quality of Customer Service delivered with a sense of warmth, friendliness, individual pride, and Company Spirit. Fulfilling this mission statement begins within the recruiting and selection process. Finding the right people, with the right attitude, can be more challenging as one may think. Many candidates can come to†¦show more content†¦Many of the KSAO’s that southwest looks for during the hiring process fall under the ability attribute, or can even be identified as â€Å"other characteristics.† However, with SWA’s philosophy to hire for attitude and train for skills, can reconfigure the level of importance, of each individual characteristic in order to retain candidates that will fit in, succeed, and stay. The KSAO’s that Southwest looks for within their selection process starts with the candidate’s Knowledge of what Southwest consists of, and most importantly, the knowledge to effectively interact with others. The Skills that Southwest looks for would typically fall under the O factor of the KSAO attributes, however, the Skill to have a genuine positive personality is the most vital characteristic that a candidate can posses. Additional skills can consist of creativity, and problem solving skills. Overall, Southwest is pr imarily looking for ability, as skills can be taught. Therefore, as a SWA employee you must have the Ability to have fun, as stated within the text, â€Å"some people have a hard time letting loose, such as those candidates that take themselves too seriously.† 2Charles 37 Teamwork provides the ability to work together successfully; some individuals cannot strive in a team atmosphere. Communication is an ability that is required within the SWA customer service industry.
